 The story…

Manitoba competed in the second of three subdivisions. At the end of the second subdivision Manitoba was in first position awaiting the results of the third and last subdivision. The performance of the team is very good but could have been a bit better…

Both coaches Robert and Lori are thinking 5th or at best 4th… There are some very strong teams out there !

The plan: Manitoba stays to watch the two first rotations of subdivision 3 then returns to the village to rest for the next day when Jenna Kerbis, Ashlee deLeeuw and Stephanie Friesen are set to compete in the All Around competition… (36 best)

After the first event of the last subdivision, the preliminary result were announced…Manitoba third…but still three rotations left…

After the second rotation was completed, Team Manitoba was ready to return to the Athlete village to rest for the next day…But …The announcement came…Manitoba still third …

The Parents…were begging us to stay….Robert and Lori finally agreed ! “Ok ! one more rotation and then we will leave”…

Third rotation announcement of the preliminary results…Manitoba still third…Robert asks the parents who have been busy tabulating scores all evening…

”How much ahead ?” The parents show 6 fingers up, from across the arena. .6    Not much to spare…Lori says “ It will not happen guys, don’t even think about it !

“ Robert starts watching beam scores being flashed… one nine is flashed , then a second nine, then … no more nines…

Robert tells the team “ Get your Manitoba Team reversible jackets out and switch them to gold…I think we just accomplished the impossible !”

At this point…we do not know for sure if we have 3rd place and by how much…but we are just hoping the parents did not make any mistakes…

Finally the results…Ontario  1st, Quebec, 2nd,…Manitoba 3rd…!   B.C. 4th, Saskatchewan 5th, Alberta 6th

Team embraces while awaiting the awards ceremonies…

Manitoba wins their first team medal ever at the Canada Games.

But it does not end there…Jenna Kerbis from Brandon wins a silver medal on the second day of competition during the All around competition.

The Next day…

In Event Finals: Joeanna Lung finishes 4th on Vault , Jenna Kerbis gets Silver on Bars, Bronze on Beam and Floor while  Ashlee deLeeuw wins a Silver medal on Beam and finishes fifth on Floor.

These are the best results ever  !
